Malbec and Wine Alcohol: What Makes it Different?
In Brazil, all alcoholic perfumery products are made with ethyl alcohol obtained from the fermentation of sugarcane. For the Malbec brand, we sought a different process inspired by the production of high-quality wines around the world.
To achieve this, we replaced the source of the alcohol and brought in an alcohol derived from the fermentation of grapes – Wine Alcohol. This raw material has a slightly fruity odor that rounds out the characteristic odor of alcohol. In addition, the wine alcohol rests in French oak barrels in our factory until it acquires the woody characteristics of the oak before being used in the manufacture of Malbec.
Fermentation
This is the main stage in the alcohol production process, where the sugars present in the must are transformed into ethyl alcohol through the yeasts present in the environment.
Distillation
This is the final operation in alcohol production. In this step, the volatile components of the wine (the product obtained in fermentation) are separated from the fixed part. The alcohol is obtained by evaporating the volatile components through their different boiling points.
This process was developed exclusively for the Malbec brand, involving our Research and Development, Process Engineering, and Supply areas. The use of wine alcohol in perfumery and cosmetic products was considered an innovation, and Grupo Boticário holds the patent for this use, filed in the USA.
